Accessibility statement

Our commitment

This website is designed and built to meet WCAG 2.1 level AA. That is a standard, not a slogan, and we would rather hear that we have missed it than assume we have not.

What we have done

• Readable text. Body text is set at 17–18px in a dark grey that exceeds the 4.5:1 contrast requirement on white. You can zoom to 200% without losing content or function.
• Keyboard operability. Every interactive element can be reached and used with a keyboard alone, including the navigation, the accordions, the constitution search and both forms. Focus is always visible.
• A skip link. The first thing a keyboard or screen-reader user meets is a link straight to the main content.
• Meaningful alt text. Every image conveys its meaning in text, or is marked as decorative so screen readers skip it.
• Correct structure. One h1 per page and headings in proper order, so the document outline matches what you see. Nothing is a heading just because it needed to be big.
• Forms that explain themselves. Real labels, hints tied to their fields, and errors announced and linked to the field that caused them — never colour alone.
• Respect for reduced motion. If your device asks for reduced motion, animation and smooth scrolling are switched off.
• No motion traps. Nothing auto-plays, auto-rotates or auto-advances. Videos load only when you press play.
• It works without JavaScript. The constitution is fully readable and linkable, the accordions are open, and both forms submit and validate. JavaScript only makes things nicer.

Known limitations

We would rather list these than pretend they do not exist.

• Some photographs are low resolution. Several images were inherited from the previous site as compressed messaging-app files. They are sharp enough to be meaningful but not as clear as we want, and we are sourcing originals.
• Project walkthrough videos have no captions or audio description. They are silent 3D visualisations with no narration, so there is no dialogue to caption, but they are not currently described in text. If you would like a written description of any walkthrough, ask us and we will write one.
• The constitution is a long document. All 118 articles are on one page so the whole text can be searched and printed together. We have added a table of contents, a search field and per-article links to make it navigable, but it is still a long page on a slow connection.

How this statement was prepared

This statement covers ukuldacoop.org. The site was tested with automated accessibility checks on every page, by keyboard-only navigation, and against the WCAG 2.1 AA success criteria during development. It has not yet been tested by an independent third party or with a screen-reader user group; we would welcome either.
